Rotary Club of West Covina Tree Planting Project 2018

The West Covina Rotary Club partnered with the West Covina Unified School District to plant 25 new trees (One per Rotary Club member) at Monte Vista Elementary School Wednesday, June 21. West Covina Rotary Club members Ken Lund, Phyllis McDonald and Dennis Evans formed a tree project committee to fund raise and organize the event. They researched and worked with community partners to find a location in need of trees.
The Club Rotarians paid for a basic tree, but the school district wanted to plant mature trees, so they covered the extra cost of the trees and planting fees as heavy equipment was needed along with a state-of-the-art watering system. This was a great project and more than met the Rotary International President Ian Riseley’s goal of ‘Plant one tree per Rotarian’.
The Rotary Club presented a check and memorial plaque to Dr. Charles Hinman, Superintendent West Covina Unified School District. The plaque will be displayed in the Monte Vista School Office.
